בנבואת ההקדשה יחזקאל מגיב בצורה פסיבית. הסיבה לכך היא שיחזקאל לא נשלח להחזיר את העם בתשובה, וגם לא לעצור את החורבן, אלא רק ליצור אמון בקרב העם כדי שיקשיבו לו לאחר החורבן.

מעשה המרכבה שראה יחזקאל קשור לכרובים שבנו משה ושלמה, אך מסמל בדיוק את ההפך - יציאת כבוד ה' לגלות במקום שכינת ה' בעם ישראל.

האופן בו רואה הנביא את כבוד ה' מלמד על המצב הרוחני של בני דורו. בתקופת יחזקאל השכינה איננה גלויה והיא עלולה לעזוב בכל רגע.

God reveals Himself to Moshe using a name He had not previously used when speaking to the Patriarchs or to the children of Israel.  Moshe therefore wondered whether the nation would accept his message from God when using a name with which they were not familiar?

God's answer to Moshe is divided into three parts.

Transgressions are compared to a cloud that form a barrier between a person and heaven, where God dwells.  The transgressions will completely disappear, just as a cloud evaporates without leaving a trace.

On the eighth day of the consecration of the Mishkan, Nadav and Avihu sinned and defiled the Mishkan.  As a consequence, God sent Aharon to atone on behalf of the Kohanim, the people of Israel and the Mishkan.  Aharon's order of the atonement service serves as the model for the Kohen Gadol's service on Yom Kippur. 

"וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי הֲרָאִיתָ בֶן אָדָם אֲשֶׁר זִקְנֵי בֵית יִשְׂרָאֵל עֹשִׂים בַּחֹשֶׁךְ אִישׁ בְּחַדְרֵי מַשְׂכִּיתוֹ כִּי אֹמְרִים אֵין ה' רֹאֶה אֹתָנוּ עָזַב ה' אֶת הָאָרֶץ" (יחזקאל ח', יב)

"וַיֹּאמֶר אֵלַי בֶּן אָדָם שָׂא נָא עֵינֶיךָ דֶּרֶךְ צָפוֹנָה וָאֶשָּׂא עֵינַי דֶּרֶךְ צָפוֹנָה וְהִנֵּה מִצָּפוֹן לְשַׁעַר הַמִּזְבֵּחַ סֵמֶל הַקִּנְאָה הַזֶּה בַּבִּאָה" (יחזקאל ח', ה)

Moshe is the prophet, teacher, and political leader of Israel during its first generation as a nation. Moshe leads Bnei Yisrael out of Egypt and guides them to Mount Sinai where they receive the Torah. He presides over the nation for their 40 years of wandering through the desert until they arrive at the border of Eretz Yisrael. A member of the tribe of Levi, Moshe is the son of Amram and Yocheved, brother of Aharon and Miriam, husband to Tzipporah, and father to Gershom and Eliezer. Hidden in the Nile by his mother Yocheved, Moshe is found by Pharaoh's daughter, who names him.
