God commands Yirmiyahu to buy the land of his cousin, Hanamel, despite the fact that the destruction is imminent. At the beginning of the story, Yirmiyahu acts as a prophet – a messenger of God who fulfills His word without hesitation. But after the fulfillment of the words of the prophecy in the presence of all the people, Yirmiyahu turns to God as a person with a turbulent prayer and challenges God.

בפני ירמיהו עומדת האפשרות להצטרף אל הגולים בבלה, אך ירמיהו מעדיף להצטרף אל גדליה בן אחיקם, זאת על מנת לחזק את מעמדו של גדליה ואת שארית הפליטה שנותרה בארץ, מתוך תקווה ששארית זו תשמש כבסיס לגאולה בעתיד.

מדהים לגלות אחרי כל נבואות החורבן, שהיה פתח הצלה אחד ויחיד למנוע את החורבן. לא בתפילות ולא בניסים, רק על ידי כניעה מוחלטת. האם אני כיהודי-ישראלי הייתי מסוגל לכך?

ירמיהו מושלך לבור טיט, וכמעט טובע בו. מי שמסייע לו הוא "עובד זר". העובדה שאיש מישראל לא עוזר לירמיהו מבטאת את מצב העם: עם ישראל שוקע ולא מסוגל לראות את חומרת המצב ולהציל את עצמו. 

In three prophecies in the unit of prophecies of consolation, Yirmiyahu foresees the changes that will take place at the time of the redemption.

The first prophecy deals with Israel being replanted in their land and the new relationship between the actions of the fathers vs. the consequences to the sons.

The second prophecy deals with a new covenant and its consequences. The difference between the old covenant and the new one relates not to the contents or to the addressee, but to the manner in which it will be made and its consequences.

מה טיבו של הניגון של מגילת איכה? נראה לומר שיש בניגון זה בכדי לגרום לאדם לרגשות של עצב ותוגה. בנוסף השמיעה החוזרת שלו בכל שנה בתשעה באב מקשרת אותו בתודעתנו לרגשות אלו. הניגון יחד עם תוכנה של המגילה מובילים אותנו לחוויה השלמה של זכרון החורבן.

This unique prophecy exalts the figure of Rachel and has been a source of inspiration for future generations. It has engraved the image of a loving and compassionate mother on the consciousness of the exiled and tormented people for thousands of years.
