40 Days of Teshuva - Week 2
We invite you to engage in the second week of study relating to Teshuva in Tanakh.
According to Hazal, Moshe ascended Mount Sinai in the aftermath of the Sin of the Golden Calf to pray for the nation. After forty days of prayer, his attempts culminated in the Day of Atonement, when God confirmed that he had forgiven the nation. Moshe then descended the mountain, to deliver the Luhot ha-Berit - the second set of tablets – thus reaffirming the covenant between God and Am Yisrael.
As a result of these events, the forty days preceeding Yom Kippur have traditionally become a time of prayer and repentance, a time in which we seek God's compassion and forgiveness.
