Shimon and Levi - On the Positives and Perils of Passion, Zealousness and Extremism

The extreme actions of these two brothers in the military extraction operation of their hostage sister, Dina from Shechem caused a major ideological argument with their father Jacob - an argument which echoes through the ages. It is apparent, according to our sages, in the sale of Yosef and reverberates through the rebellions of Zimri and Korach from the tribes of Shimon and Levi respectively. And, it continues to challenge us until this very day.
