High priest of Midyan and father-in-law of Moshe. Yitro gives his daughter Zipporah to Moshe in marriage and then sends the couple off to Egypt to do God's bidding. Moshe 's father-in-law comes to meet the nation of Israel as they move through the desert following their Egyptian escape. He brings Zipporah his daughter and his two grandsons Gershom and Eliezer with him. Yitro is delighted to hear of Israel's successes and is convinced that God is greater than all other possible gods.Yitro advises Moshe to appoint assistants to ease the burden of running the nation, advice that Moshe adopts. Moshe appeals to Yitro to join him and the nation on their march to the land of Israel.
