תקציר
The Perat (Euphrates) River is one of the main rivers of Mesopotamia.
- Perat was one of the rivers that flowed from the main river of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2, 14).
- The River Perat also appears in the list of borders of the Land of Israel as promised to the forefathers and to Bnei Yisrael (Genesis 15, 18; Deuteronomy 11,24; Joshua 1, 4).
- During the reign of King Yoshiya of Yehuda in the late monarchic period, Pharaoh Necho went to confront the King of Assyria at Perat. Unfortunately, King Yoshiya went to meet him but was killed at Meggido (II Kings 23, 29).
Today, the river flows through Iraq from the southeastern Turkish mountains, ending at the Persian Gulf.
