Identified as Tel el-Muqayyar (J. G. Taylor – site excavator).

• Ur is the birthplace and place of death of Haran son of Terah (Genesis 11, 28).
• Ur is the birthplace of Avraham, and from where he, his father Terah, Sarah and Lot departed on their way to Canaan (Genesis 11, 31; 15, 7; Nehemiah 9,7).
