Summary

Upper Beit Horon is one of the Levite cities in the land of Ephraim, located in the land of Binyamin.

Currently identified as Beit Ur el-Foqa (Y. Aharoni).

  • Upper Beit Horon was built by a remnant of the tribe of Ephraim (I Chronicles 7, 24).
  • Philistines (Pelishtim) made their way to the area of Upper Beit Horon in the days of King Shaul (I Samuel, 13, 18).
  • In his time, King Shlomo conducted building projects in Upper Beit Horon (II Chronicles, 8, 5).
  • In the days of Amatzya (King of Yehuda), when the Kingdoms of Yehuda and Yisrael were rivals, troops from the Kingdom of Yisrael killed men of Yehuda at Upper Beit Horon (II Chronicles, 25, 13).
