Summary

Yivleam, also called Bilam, is a city in the tribal territory of Menashe, in the Yizre'el area (I Chronicles 6, 55).

Currently identified with Tel Balama, south of Jenin(Y. Schwartz).

  • The city of Yivleam was designated for the half tribe of Menashe, but in the time of Judges it was still a Canaanite city (Joshua 17, 1; Judges 1, 27).
  • Yivleam was a major city during the monarchic era.
  • Yehu assassinated King Ahaziah of Yehuda and King Yehoram of Israel next to Yivleam (II Kings 9, 27).

Archaelogy:

  • A tunnel was discovered at Yivleam that led from the town to the spring at the foot of the hill, which is similar to ancient tunnels from the Bronze Age that were discovered at Gezer and Giveon.
  • Pottery shards were discovered at Yivleam that dated to the Israelite era.
