Summary

Yaazer is a city in the southern part of Gilead.

  • During their journey on the eastern bank of the Jordan river, Bnei Yisrael captured Yaazer from the Emorites after they conquered Heshbon (Numbers 21, 32).
  • The men of Gad who raised livestock settled in Yaazer, a fertile area for such activities (Numbers 32, 1; Joshua 13, 25).
  • The men of Gad built up the city of Yaazer (Numbers 32, 34-36).
  • Yaazer is listed as one of the Cities of Leviim (Joshua 21, 36-37; I Chronicles 6, 66).
  • Yaazer lay within the territory of King David's kingdom (II Samuel 24, 5; I Chronicles 26, 31).
  • The prophecies of Yeshayahu and Yirmiahu depict Yaazer as a Moabite city (Isaiah 16, 8-9; Jeremiah 48, 32).
