Summary
Nov is a city of Kohanim in the tribal territory of Binyamin, located north of Jerusalem.
Currently identified with Issawiya (Y. Peres). Some identify it with as being on the Mount of Olives (W. Albright).
- The Kohen Ahimelekh inadvertently provided refuge for David while David, unbeknownst to Ahimelekh, was fleeing from Shaul (I Samuel 21, 2).
- After Doeg Ha-Edomi told Shaul that Ahimelekh had sheltered David, King Shaul issued a command for his servants to kill the Kohanim at Nov. His servants refused to harm the priests of God, so Shaul commanded Doeg to kill the Kohanim of Nov, and he complied. All of the city's inhabitants were killed, except for Eviatar, son of Ahimelekh, who told David what had happened and joined his camp (I Samuel 22, 9-23).
