Summary

A Canaanite monarchy city in the Galilee, in the tribal territory of Naphtali, Hazor apparently means "camp" or "fenced settlement." 

Currently identified with Tel Hazor (Y. Aharoni)

  • Yehoshua conquered Hazor  from Yavin King of Canaan, who was the head of the northern Canaanite kings that waged war against Israel (Joshua 11,1-14; 12, 19).
  • Devorah and Barak fought the Canaanite army from Hazor, led by Sisera (Judges 4,2-17).
  • King Shlomo made Hazor a city of chariots and store city (I Kings 9,15).
  • Tiglat Pileser King of Assyria exiled the residents of Hazor during the reign of Pekah King of Israel (II Kings 15,29).
