Summary

Ezion Gever, also called Eilat, is a city on the coast of the Red Sea (Yam Suf) gulf. In the days of the Forefathers, it was called Eil Paran.

Currently identified with Eilat, a port city that is currently a resort town.

  • As Eil Paran, it appears in the war between the Four Kings and the  Five Kings (Genesis 14, 6).
  • Bnei Yisrael passed through Ezion Gever on their journey from Egypt (Deuteronomy 2, 8; Numbers 33, 35-36).
  • King Shlomo built a port in Ezion Gever North of the gulf of Eilat (I Kings 9, 26; II Chronicles 8, 17).
  • King Yehoshafat's ships were destroyed at Ezion Gever/ Eilat (I Kings 22, 49; II Chronicles 20, 36-37).
  • King Uziya of Yehuda regained sovereignty of Ezion Gever for the Kingdom of Yehuda (II Kings 14, 22).
  • King Rezin of Aram conquered Ezion Gever during the reign of Ahaz (II Kings 16, 6).
